GUIDELINES FOR EXTREME HEAT

In extreme temperatures, it’s crucial to follow guidelines for exercise and hydration to ensure athletes’ safety. Parents and officials should prioritize hydration and shade for athletes. Sun safety education is essential at the start of the hot weather season. Athletes should wear sun-safe attire, hats, and high-quality sunscreen. Shade must be available, and public announcements should encourage water intake and sun safety. Adequate fluid intake is crucial, with cool water stations and sports drinks available. Consider postponing or canceling events if the temperature exceeds 40°C. Heat injuries, like heat exhaustion and heat stroke, are serious and require immediate attention. Heat stroke is potentially fatal and needs immediate cooling and medical help. These guidelines prioritize athlete health and safety.
